10 Years in The Making

10 YEARS IN THE MAKING

10 YEARS IN THE MAKING

The Thane Zrongo fashion line saw its humble beginnings just over a ten years ago, with an old sewing machine, a fascination with clothing design and a need to create.

Since then, we have taken the brand to different states, venues, areas of ecommerce and in person sales, custom commissions and most recently made to measure accessories sold in stores. We have seen trends, silhouettes, patterns, styles, designers and many other facets of fashion come and go in that short time.

The House of Grand Design was founded on the allure of out of the ordinary designs, a dissent from what was considered “normal” and a dive into the deeply unusual and the uniqueness of an individual’s choice in clothing. The draw was to all things striking, wild, bold and loud. Through the never ending study of style we have also grown to appreciate the understated and timeless in equal amounts.

Recently, many of our clients have been seeking a more timeless look for their custom pieces. A grey or blue suit may not seem to be the most revolutionary choice at first glance. Though a majority of these same clients are in one creative industry or another, there is a shared need for professional looking attire which still allows their work to stand out. The seasoned professional grows to admire tried and true concepts as marks of a solid industry.

There’s a reason Saville Road shops have staple pieces which are seldom if ever rotated out. Why French ateliers are trained in centuries old concepts of design in couture clothing. Why there are common threads of interpretation when looking at certain styles and colors of clothing, even if one knows very little about how and why it looks the way it does.

Professional artists eventually find themselves in the corporate world in one way or another. And just like the traditional model coming to castings in a white t-shirt and jeans provides the blank canvas for a clothing designer, the working professional finds that their body of work speaks to the creative explosion which is their mental space. While their clothing can provide that necessary contrast, that element of control and orderliness in a mess of imaginative chaos.

We have never made clothing to simply blend in, and we don’t intend to start now. We believe that your accomplishments speak for themselves, clothing is meant to elevate and reveal just enough about the wearer to promote intrigue and a sense of mystery. A need to know more, a need to reach out and touch one another.

After 10 years of sourcing materials, testing patterns and producing articles of clothing that are unparalleled for customers all over the world we are looking to take the next step into American made prêt-à-porter.

Up until last year, all of our work had been on a consultation basis. Creating suits, shirts and garments for customers one at a time. Last year we introduced our first line of ready to wear ties, suits and shirts into stores. Now we are looking to create a new collection.

This collection will be based on the idea of longevity. Longevity in each aspect of production from the quality of the materials, design and construction of the garment, protective packaging for shipment as well as detailed care guides provided for each article of clothing.

In the onset of this journey we took some time to think about the concept of craftsmanship and came to the conclusion that what defines it is the level of the materials and its ability to stand the test of time. As we explored the idea more over the last 10 years, we came to understand that true craftsmanship is more than just a few attributes, it's a legacy.

And that is exactly what we are looking to create with our newest collection: A Legacy.
